Tongue Rings Require Special Care After Piercing
You just got home from a day with the girls and you decided to get your tongue pierced. You’re home now and it’s time to show Mom and Dad. Wonder how that’s going to go over. Based on your past experiences, it’s very possible that you’re going to get into trouble. After getting tongue rings, most often teens wonder how they’ll keep this new body jewelry hidden from their parents.
The most popular age group for getting a piercing ranges from about age 15-25. Of that new body jewelry, tongue rings are some of the most popular. There are different types of the tongue rings available for those who make the choice to get this done.
The tongue ring was a way for you to express yourself and be unique, right? Some teens that get the piercing done live in strict homes where the parents would be furious if they found their child with a hole in their tongue. To benefit the teenager, there are many ways to hide a piercing from your parents. If you don’t see your parents too often during the day, this should be even easier.
One of the most difficult things to get adjusted to after getting tongue rings is the way people talk. This can be extremely noticeable to your folks, however. Some people develop lisps after getting the piercing and some can’t say certain words; it’s a challenge. There are a couple of ways to avoid letting someone notice this; you could try chewing gum and avoiding raising your voice around your parents. Louder voices tend to require you to open your mouth further, which can lead to them seeing the new tongue ring.
Of course, parents are sometimes able to see the tongue ring or ball in your mouth. Wearing light or clear colors can help eliminate the possibility of this happening. If you wear a hot pink or lime green tongue ring you are so much more likely to get caught with the piercing than you would if you wore a neutral, hard to notice color. Another thing to consider is the size of the ball; ones larger than a pea are too big if you’re trying to hide it from someone. Don’t buy anything too large if you are trying to hide the fact that you have a piercing.
After getting the piercing inserted, the most common reaction is swelling which is why you start to talk strangely. If swelling occurs, the best way to hide it is to soak a tea bag and set it directly on top of the part of your tongue that is swelling. The hot temperature will help the tissue absorb the heat particles and will later decrease the swelling. Tricks like this will return your speech to normal in no time.
Follow these tips, and they will help you- for a while, at least- in getting rid of swelling and avoiding consequences from your parents.
