Hair Scissors Are Shear Perfection

Sharpen your hair scissors and get ready to style! This season’s hottest hair styles are everywhere but are you prepared? Stying your own hair is one of those things that seems like it should be a no-brainer…but that’s not always the case. You have no chance of success unless you have the right tools for the job and this means professional hair shears.

When you’re running into things because you can’t see through your own bangs, it’s time to figure out a quick, easy, at-home fix. So make sure you use the following tools to get a clean cut if you’re not going to a professional salon.  You will need a water bottle, professional hair scissors, a fine-toothed comb, a mirror, a non-carpeted area and a cape or towel with a clip.

Trying to trim your tresses when they’re dry will definitely create trouble. Wet down the area you’ll be trimming or cutting with the water bottle.  When you use water, the hair will be much more cooperative and matted down, coming in handy when it’s time to use the hair scissors.

After that, it’s time to work with your hair shears. DO NOT use the scissors you use for every day projects in the office. These aren’t specialized for your hair so they won’t do as good of a job as real, professional scissors can do. If you’re going to be trimming your hair at home, it’s definitely a good idea to invest in a high quality pair of hair shears.  A good idea is to always look at reviews online for any type of product before you spend lots of money on it. When looking for the hair shears make sure to go with a pair that is extremely sharp and knick-free. It’s important to store this investment in a cool, dry place to avoid damage or rust.

You’ve probably noticed that your stylist will gather a section of hair and snip it piece by piece to make it more manageable.  The best tool for this style of hair cutting is a fine-tooth comb.  If you get a comb that has wide gaps is harder to use because it doesn’t create as smooth of a surface for your scissors to do their job with your hair. You can find fine-toothed combs at most drugstores or professional hair product stores.

Now that you’ve prepared the tools you’ll need for this job, go find a large mirror and station yourself in front of it. For example, use the one in your bathroom, it’s where you’re used to doing your hair every day and it will give you the feel of your routine to make things easier. Make sure it is a large enough mirror: never think you have the talent to cut without a mirror unless you have professional experience and training

When standing in a carpeted area, the hair that falls will be so much harder to clean up. Have you ever noticed that salons always have tile, wood or some sort of hard surfaced floors?  On hard surfaced floors, all you have to do is a quick sweep when you’re done. But if you use a carpeted area, you’ll have to drag out that vacuum.

Just pretend you’re at your salon for this part. Take a towel or a cape and wrap it around your shoulders, clipping it at the top. This will help the pieces of hair that are so little stay off of your clothes and keep them from itching you all day.

Following this basic process will allow you to find success in your hair cutting routine. Although there are many special tools that are advertised every day, you don’t need them. Use these basic essentials and your mane will thank you. Not to mention it will look clean and refreshed!
