Full Support For Research More Healthy Sewage Disposal

The Utah Division of Health currently received a letter from the Utah planning officers with regard to the concerning utilization of septic tanks as a way of getting rid of sewage in developing areas of the county. The commissioners asked if there are long range plans for the conduct of further research that can help determine at what level septic tanks are no longer safe used in developing recreational areas. Further inquiry was also made on the existence of information or intent to conduct a study in the future which could give a hand to the planning department in development approval phase.

In reply to the questions, the Deputy Director of the local health department stated that the state does not have any intention to cause harsh effects on the health of the citizens of the county or endanger the environment. He continues to say that they remain to be mindful of the appropriate disposal of human and animal wastes, especially the provisions in the Utah State Code of Waste minimum requirements for wastewater in the state. The sewage disposal will be regulated to only areas with ample amount of acceptable soil because of these requirements. A soil is considered up to code in description if wastewater can be rightly apportioned from surface and ground water under it, thus giving the wastes ample time to be passably purified. In Utah County, there are some spots that have insignificant capability to meet the requisites mentioned in the state code. If there is an issue among the public commissioners and Utah County residents with regard to the usage separate wastewater disposal systems, the county will approve of a more stringent demands compared to the present requirements. Such requirements will impose restrictions on the size of lots where such systems are allowed. They can be a notch stricter about the soil classification, set a better separation of wastewater from ground and surface waters, and reinforce other boundaries that are deemed important to prevent health problems.

One good boost is the septic tank and drain field utilization regulation is a more established cooperation coming from the county officials toward local health department, especially the reinforcement of the code for specific properties. The state is loaded with situations where local officials will disagree with the local health agency for preventing the installation of a wastewater system where the property failed to meet the criteria stated in the Code of Waste Disposal Regulations. The Deputy Director was truly vocal about his appeal to the local officials to be strong in their reinforcement of the protocol.

There is a special mention on the fact that the State Division of Health does not have enough supply to commence a research with a goal of determining the boundaries of septic tanks and absorption systems that can safely be applied in Utah County or elsewhere in the state. His willingness to take part in any study or research initiative of the Utah County to the best of their budget and ability was also stated in his reply. Imposition of the existing local laws is a vital approach, he said. More expert rain water tank information is located at water tanks sydney.
